OCR GCSE History A: The Making of the Modern World

Our approach to the History curriculum

The study of History will bring our pupils into a rich dialogue with the past and with the traditions of historical enquiry. History and the changing accounts of the past have shaped the identities of diverse peoples, groups and nations. Through their studies our pupils will come to understand their place in the world and the long story of human development.

Curriculum content

Key Stage 3

All students at KS3 at St Augustine's will complete studies on the mandatory elements of the History National Curriculum

  • Holocaust
  • Local / National and International studies from a broad time frame

Our teaching and curriculum design will secure pupils’ chronological knowledge and the narrative arc of history.

There are opportunities to study aspects of the past in overview and in depth.

Key subject skills are introduced and revisited in a spiral approach with all 5 key skills taught and assessed at KS3 and KS4 in an age appropriate manner. Additionally, a further key skill of communication, written and verbal will be taught and assessed.
