Our approach to the Mathematics Curriculum

Mathematical understanding is a journey; by re-visiting the different strands of mathematics on a regular basis our spiral curriculum model allows students to build upon prior learning and see links between these strands. We believe mathematical intelligence is expandable, and that every child can learn mathematics, given the appropriate learning experiences. Our curriculum reflects our high expectations for every child. Every student is entitled to master the key mathematical content for their age, by receiving the support and challenge they specifically need.

Curriculum content

Key Stage 3

Throughout KS3 students will follow schemes of work developed by experienced members of the department; these schemes continue to evolve in response to the needs of our students. They develop students’ skills across a range of mathematical areas including number, algebra, geometry, proportion and statistics.

Key Stage 4

Students build on their knowledge and problem solving skills at key stage 3 to prepare for their GCSE mathematics in which they will be examined at the end of year 11. Each year a small number of students opt to study for the AQA Level 2 certificate in Further Mathematics.
